Groups hope to derail provision to strip mass transit financing

A number of business and interest groups are fighting a provision in a House transportation bill that would end a policy of dedicating a portion of fuel taxes to mass transit, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The coalition, which includes such groups as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AARP, is aligning to fight against a move in the House to kill the dedicated financing stream for mass transit. A Senate transportation bill does not include such a provision.
Kansas City officials hope to get $25 million in federal money this year to help pay for a $100 million downtown streetcar line.
