Pipeline will boost economy

It was apparent that the numerous supporters of the construction of an environmentally responsible Keystone XL pipeline who attended the Dec. 4 hearing in Albion really understood the strategic security need for this pipeline and the economic benefits it would provide both now and in the future.

The Keystone XL pipeline would immediately help small businesses in our state and throughout the Midwest.

For example, service industries such as restaurants, hotels, motels, gas stations and grocery stores would see an increase in their revenues immediately from the influx of pipeline workers.

The economic activity that results from an increase in good-paying jobs, along with the construction materials that will be required at the job site to complete this project, would be a huge stimulus to many businesses and governments in communities surrounding the pipeline, in the state of Nebraska, in the Midwest, and in the entire country.

We all share a common concern for America’s energy future. Together with the Partnership to Fuel America, we must all work to ensure that critical energy decisions are made and that our future will be a secure one with a reliable, diverse supply of energy.
