NORTH HAVEN, CT - The Linda McMahon for Senate campaign announced today that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Linda McMahon’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate. In the Chamber’s letter of endorsement, Chamber President and CEO Tom Donohue states:
“Your record of support on pro-business issues earned this endorsement. At no other time in our nation’s history has it been more critical that members of Congress provide leadership that protects and advances the interests of the business community. We believe that your election to the U.S. Senate will help produce sustained economic growth, help create more jobs, and get our country back on track.”
The Chamber’s endorsement is a clear rebuke to Chris Murphy’s record on business issues in Congress. In 2011, Congressman Murphy scored a 19% rating from the Chamber, the lowest score of the entire Connecticut delegation. In contrast, the person Congressman Murphy is trying to replace in the U.S. Senate, Senator Joe Lieberman, had a 90% rating from the Chamber in 2011. As a lifelong Democrat-turned-Independent, Sen. Lieberman has shown he can rise above partisan politics on business issues. The same cannot be said of Congressman Murphy.
“The United States Senate is in desperate need of more job creators and less career politicians," U.S. Chamber National Political Director Rob Engstrom said. “Linda McMahon has spent her entire life in the private sector creating jobs and making payroll. She is more interested in creating jobs than saving her own. Congressman Murphy has been part of the problem, not the solution, during his 14 years in elected office and what does he have to show for it? Higher taxes. Lower wages. More unemployment. Connecticut voters need Linda McMahon, her jobs plan and her middle-class tax cut in Washington because they simply can't afford another six years of Chris Murphy's failed policies.”
Since Chris Murphy was sworn in as a member of Congress in January 2007, the number of unemployed Americans and the U.S. unemployment rate have both risen by 70%. In Connecticut, it is even worse with both gauges rising by over 100%. In that same period, home values have decreased by 22%, food prices have increased, gas prices have shot up nearly 80%, and the number of Connecticut citizens on food stamps has increased by 90%. While Congressman Murphy claims he fights hard for the middle class, his record on behalf of the middle class is an utter failure.
“I am honored to have earned the U.S. Chamber’s endorsement,” Linda McMahon said. “I’ve spent my career creating hundreds of good jobs in Connecticut, and I will take that experience with me to the United States Senate. We must turn our country’s economy around so entrepreneurs can start creating jobs again, and I have a plan to do that. My plan will cut taxes for the middle class, saving the average family in Connecticut $500 a month next year; cap the tax rate on businesses; stop out-of-control government spending; and roll back burdensome over-regulation. This will refuel America’s economic engine and get us back on a path to prosperity.”
Joining the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is an easy choice to make and an investment that begins to pay off right away.
