USA Today: Persistently Poor Job Market is Worst Since Great Depression
U.S. Chamber SBN
The USA Today reports that in the two years since the economic recovery began, job creation has grown at the slowest post-recession rate since the Great Depression. The paper states that the country has 5% fewer jobs today- roughly 7 million less- than it did before the recession began in December of 2007.
The article highlights that the health care industry added almost 450,000 jobs in the 18-month downturn and over 480,000 jobs in the 22-months since, marking one bright spot. However, since the onset of the recession, the construction industry has lost a total of 2 million jobs.

At the start the decline in 2007, I started a construction talk radio show. It profiled local contractors and suppliers in a live interactive format. The show went straight to the top of the ratings and held. In 2009 I told the station that I needed a reduction in rate due to the fact that building tapers off in winter and I wouldn't be able to carry. They thought I was nuts. Who's nuts now? Building is in the dumpster; but its the building industry that can get us out of the national mess. Read my blogs at www.talkradiobuilder.com Ken Swanson member: Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce
