Publishing Company
Barbara Stevens
Hello I am trying to start a publishing company. I originally started writing for Victims of Domestic Violence and Crime. Standing as a survivor allows me to have first hand experience. What I have run into that there are three companies that want to publish my books but they want too much money for all the work that I have put in and since I lived this out myself; I feel that publishing my books which is close to twenty books that I have done. Ready to help victims of Domestic Violence and Crime Victims. ' There are also spiritual books, poetry and even written a play; I became a Freelance Writer recently.
I need help on the steps to become a Publishing Company. As a foundation we would like to build a safe house in an area that I am interested in. All that I desire to do requires me to have funds which i don't have. Should i become Non-profit even though I want to sell my books?

Barbara,
Have you been able to make any progress?
You may also want to check the legal requirements for your community. See if you need any licenses and if there are any restrictions on having a business in your home.

@Barbara: You can visit http://www.irs.gov/charities/nonprofits/content/0,,id=132157,00.html for information about the requirements for exemption. Reading through these might help you figure out whether or not your publishing business is elligible for tax exempt status.
