Criminal background checks are required for health care and educational professionals and applicants for positions as health care and educational professionals.

Child care, elder care and personal care workers must complete a registration form for the state's family care safety registry provided by the Department of Health within 15 days of the beginning of their employment. Failure to submit the form without good cause is a class B misdemeanor.

An in-home services provider or home health agency is guilty of a misdemeanor if it knowingly employs a person to provide in-home or home health services who either refuses to register with the Family Care Safety Registry or is listed on any of the background check lists in the registry.
