Small Business Nation. A Project of The U.S. Chamber of Commerce

How can I influence my member of Congress on a particular issue or piece of legislation?

Despite the flood of communications to Congressional offices in the last few years, there are still ways to make sure your message is heard.

It is helpful for you to personalize your message to your member of Congress. Do this by discussing the impact of a bill on you personally, provide solid reasons why you support or oppose a bill or issue, and provide a relevant personal story. Once you have decided on your story, you will be ready to communicate with your member of Congress, whether by visiting their district or D.C. office, attending a town hall meeting, sending a letter, or sending a tweet. It’s all about making it personal.
